Hunting Information

Tarentaalrand Safari offers you a wide choice of hunting packages, Bow hunting, Biltong hunting, Cull hunting and Informal (Social Bird Hunting). Under the professional guidance of your Professional Hunters, you can bag as many as twenty(20) different species of African plains game, at Tarentaalrand Safari Lodge, and other species will be available at the hunter’s request.

Our hunting season lasts all year round although it peaks in the winter months – March to September. You can expect shooting distances varying from only 30 meters to up to 250 meters. You will arrive at OR Thambo International Airport where you can take a domestic flight to Bloemfontein or Kimberley. Kimberley airport is only a 15 minutes drive from Tarentaalrand. If we meet you at OR Thambo International Airport or Bloemfontein airport additional cost will be charged for traveling. Your booking will be confirmed on reception of 50% of the daily rates. The balance is payable on arrival in the hunting area. 

Inclusive of the daily rates:

  •  3 balanced meals daily

  •  All licenses and permits
  • The services of Professional Hunters
  • Laundry services 

Excluded are:

  •  Airfare and chartered flights
  •  All visas
  •  Accommodation before and after the hunt
  •  Trophy and taxidermist fees
  •  Rifles and ammunition
  •  Rifle hire is available at an additional fee

We recommend that you bring the following:

  • Clothing of a light safari type, preferably in a drab olive or khaki colour.
  •  Shoes should be comfortable and well-worn, with a soft sole for better stalking.
  •  Remember enough warm jackets as nights and early mornings can be cold. Average temperatures you can expect are: the autumn/winter season (April to August): 0 to 25 degrees Celsius (32 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit) and spring/summer (September to March): 10 to 35 degrees Celsius (50 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit).
  •  A suitable hat for protection against the sun (preferably in natural colours)
  •  Remember to bring your binoculars and camera/video equipment – the surroundings are beautiful and a photo will be permanent proof of your hunting adventure
  •  A pocket knife is always handy, as is a torch at night
  •  We encourage hunters to bring their own firearms with which they are familiar. Temporary permits can be easily obtained for the duration of the hunt.
  • Tarentaalrand offers rifle hire at additional rates, or you can bring your own with all relevant permits

Terms and Conditions:

  • 50% of the total hunting safari cost is payable as deposit to confirm and secure a hunt booking, with the balance payable upon the day of safari commencement. Species fees are payable at the end of the safari and include wounded / lost animals as determined by the professional hunter.
  • Normally a standard safari’s duration is a minimum stay of 7 days and maximum of 21 days. Should you require any other special schedule, we would need to discuss this option first.
  • When a safari is cancelled the deposit is not refundable unless termination of the booking is received three months prior to the stated departure date, in which case the deposit less a 10% handling fee will be refunded (thus refunding of 90% takes place). Always ensure you get trip cancellation insurance as unforeseen circumstances including missing scheduled airline flights can occur!
  • Although we take all necessary precautions, we accept no liability for any unforeseen accidents or happenings, due to the fact that hunting and safari travel can be dangerous.
